About Tatiana

Welcome to GAPS Help!

My name is Tatiana Baskin and I am a qualified specialist in natural medicine.

My path to nutritional practice is not common. Usually most people begin to study and practice natural medicine because they are unable to solve their own health problems with conventional doctors and drugs.

Medical professionals are beginning to use unconventional therapies, and sometimes completely switching to natural methods, in search of a gentle, humane and effective treatment, often disillusioned with the practiced symptomatic therapy. That is therapy directed not to treat the disease, but only to eliminate the symptoms…

But my story is different…

I grew up in small town on Azov Sea in Ukraine. Every summer holiday I spend at my grandparents’ farm. I drank raw milk; I loved freshly baked bread with homemade butter and honey. For lunch we always had soup, borscht, fish soup, meat or fish. Fruits and vegetables were fresh, too – right from the branches – on the table…

Now I understand that at that time the foundation was laid for my own (and my future children’s) good health.

My husband, Igor Baskin, was a doctor of gastroenterology in Ukraine. Here in Canada, I watched as his interest shifted from conventional medicine – toward natural. Together we often discussed the problems of modern medicine.

Igor has written several books on aging, obesity, and “diseases of civilization.” Of course, I was the first reader and editor.

After all these discussions, debates and participation in the research of my husband, my interest in nutrition, diet and natural medicine inadvertently led me to the idea to get proper education. In this area, I saw an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience that will fit my aspiration for helping people. After all, following the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius: “Man is worth as much, as what he is interested in – is worth”.

In my personal life I have struggled with my own contradictory qualities of a shy introvert and a desire for the role of a leader – entrepreneur, helping people to improve their lives.

Recently I had to go through the experience of dealing with brain injury as a result of my husband’s stroke. He lost the ability to speak, read and write properly. This life challenge demonstrated for me the increased need for optimal nutrition and supplements, and also importance of special brain training (in this case – speech therapy) for the development of new neural connections and possibly new neuron formation.

All of us, living in a modern world, realize one day that our body and surrounding environment is not supporting each other seamlessly.

My great passion is bringing help to people who have been through a traumatic experience of a body and/or mind malfunctioning in day to day tasks. I guide my clients – adults, children and families, to find healthy ways to improve their precious body and brain with a natural diet and supportive lifestyle.

I believe that every individual needs a specific

healing path with natural methods. My education is associated with a holistic approach to human health. First, I graduated from the Stratford Career Institute and received a diploma in Natural Medicine Consulting. Then I continued my studies at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and graduated as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.

My search for natural healing led me to studying the Gut and Psychology/Physiology Syndrome (GAPS) protocol, developed by Dr. Campbell-McBright. I completed a practitioner’s course and became one of the first Certified GAPS Practitioners in Canada.

I continue my education constantly through professional courses, conferences and endless reading and online research.

My educational background also includes a Master Degree in Design and Technology. So I am an experienced designer with good eye and attention for detail, and will help you to redesign your life for better health and wellness.
